Gaby Sommer is a German independent photographer concentrating on environmental portraiture and documentary photo essays for magazines and public relations clients. Specialties include portraiture of personalities and leaders of economy and industry, politics and administration.
After being stringer with the Associated Press in Frankfurt (from 1980 - 1983), she was the photo correspondent for the french photo agency GAMMA in Germany. In 1985 she then joined the staff photographers of Reuters in Berlin and Bonn. and was the first accredited photo correspondent for REUTERS in the former East Germany.
In 2005 she was appointed as a member of IMMF Board of Trustees (Indochina Media Memorial Foundation) and has taught professional photographers in Vietnam. In 2006 she was appointed as a member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (German Society of Photography).
Since 2002 Gaby has dedicated herself to landscape photography. In various photo series she explores themes such as Home Country (since 2002), Forest (since 2005), Heaven (phantoms of heaven/sylphs, since 2006), Trees (Two Trees since 2009) and the romantic Rhine (Rhinegold, since 2011).
